ES2007S 6th Blog: Biodata

Name: Jimmy
Height: Rather tall, according to his own standards
Weight: Very light
Hair: Almost dropping
Hobbies: Basketball
Personality: Likes to think of himself as someone who is caring and fun-loving

My lively character and witty quips are a big part of a small me. Besides being known as an animated and jovial kid, I get along well with others and enjoy leading teams. That is why I like basketball- it is a team-oriented sport that tests my physical endurance and mental toughness and pushes me to my limits.

Jack Welch said: “Control your destiny or someone else will”. This makes me realize the importance of grasping every opportunity in my life so that I know I am on the path to greater knowledge and success. I know I can succeed!
Figure: Someday, I will be like him.

Hi Jimmy,

I cannot help but concur with your philosophy in life. Some people may leave their lives to the so called ‘fate’, but I always believe that ‘fate’ always lies in our hands. You are what you do. For sure, a dose of self belief will be good to begin with. Nevertheless, as long as you believe in whatever you do, and grabbing the opportunities as they come by, success will always be within reach. Like you, I also engage in team sports. Someone once said that a team is only as good as its weakest link, therefore the mental endurance and toughness that team sports cultivate also helps in bringing out the best in us.

Cheers

Hi Jimmy,

"Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero!"(Seize the day, put no trust in tomorrow.) You are right to say that it is important to grasp every opportunity in one's life and make full use of it because it does not come by easily every now and then. However, many times we let an opportunity slips by quietly when we ponder on whether to grab it.

I personally feel that greater success will come when preparation meets opportunity. If you are ill prepared your success will not be as great as it could have been. Opportunity can arise when we most expect it or least expect it and being well prepared is the key to capitalising every opportunity grasped.

Hi Jimmy,
grasping every opportunity that comes is really very important. Opportunity does not knock twice and you will not want to be ruing a missed opportunity. Your biodata
expresses your 'never say die' attitude. This will be important in road to success.

To Nicole,

Well, Tyrone “Mugsy” Bogues was 5 feet 3 inches, yet he was regularly among the NBA’s leaders in assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. (If these terms are alien to you, it simply means that he was terrific!)

Therefore, to me, height is always a mental obstacle that I have to overcome. And I certainly welcome the challenge of playing in a sport where giants have an advantage! You should try it out too!

To Barry:

Talking about preparations, I would like to share a quote by Abraham Lincoln: Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. I agree with you that when preparation meets opportunity, greater success will come. Not only that, we will also be better equipped to face failure in unexpected events.

Don’t let another opportunity pass by my friend. Treasure everyday, and every loved ones. Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero!

To Ho Teck,

Personally, I do not want to lie on my deathbed and regret about things that I should have done but did not managed to try it out. I want to see fate as a string of opportunities that are within my grasp.

It’s not what we say out loud that determines our lives. It’s what we whisper to ourselves that has the most power.

Can I do it?

(Yes I can!)

Believe in yourself, and we can make miracles happen in our everyday life.

Hi Jimmy,

I like a biodata with a personal motto, therefore I like your biodata. According to 7Cs by quoting Jack Welch, you have provided some credibility to your motto.

Okay, those two lines are not written seriously. I enjoyed reading your biodata and cannot agree more with you that if we do not take control of our life, others will have to do so and we may not like what they make us do. Time and tide wait for no man.

I'm glad you know what you want and is working towards achieving them.

Hey Jimmy,
I find your biodata very refreshing as compared to others. I really like the Jack Welch's quote. It was really inspiring. I dont really know how to play basketball but I have seen my friends play basketball.I have to agree with you that it is a team-oriented sport that tests the physical endurance and mental toughness. It was physical when i saw my friends playing basketball.

Hey Jimmy!

I think you've described yourself to the t! From day one you have shown yourself to be a happy and easy going person. And I can tell that you would not let any opportunity pass you by. It's been fun having you as a groupmate and blogging buddy; it saddens me that semester will be over soon!

I have no doubt you will succeed in whatever path you choose; when you do, don't forget about me! =)
